CLEVELAND, Ohio – A severe thunderstorm moved across Northeast Ohio early Saturday afternoon knocking out power to tens of thousands of FirstEnergy customers in the area.
The storm brought strong winds that gusted up to 60-to-70 miles per hour, according to Raelene Campbell, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, causing a lot of damage, including downed trees and shingles blown from roofs. A listing of FirstEnergy customers without power at 4:27 p.m. showed 8,615 customers in Cuyahoga County, 13,997 in Summit County, 10,216 in Medina County, 5,561 in Geauga County, 3,372 in Lorain County and 4,625 in Lake County..
The storm, connected with a cold front, has moved out of the area, Campbell said.
