A severe storm struck Randfontein in Gauteng ’s East Rand, displacing approximately 190 families and injuring over 20 individuals. The storm affected Toekomsrus informal settlement, Greenfields Estate, and Umphakathi Mall. The injured were treated at nearby healthcare facilities. Randfontein Executive Mayor William Matsheke confirmed that displaced families have received food and temporary shelter. However, some Toekomsrus residents resisted relocation.
The mayor stated they are collaborating with the Gauteng provincial government and the national Department of Human Settlements to manage the disaster. A mop-up operation is currently underway in Randfontein, west of Johannesburg
