University of Calgary profs, Pikani Nation elder and international philanthropist among governor\u002Dgeneral\u0027s latest appointees
Clifford Wallis, Mike Shaikh and Samuel Weiss, all of Calgary, were all named members of the Order of Canada.
Weiss, a professor at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine, was recognized for his “groundbreaking discoveries in neuroscience that have led to novel approaches in the treatment of brain disorders.” Tidlund, a former oilpatch executive, founded the Mary A. Tidlund Charitable Foundation, which delivered medical aid to dozens of impoverished countries over two decades. She published her memoirs, Memories of a Wildcat: Unadoptable, Unstoppable, Unconditional Love, in 2020.
While celebrating them, she said “we must also acknowledge that work remains to ensure that Canadian honours better reflect the full diversity of our country.
