Serene Fylde coast village walk with much loved pub and spectacular river viewpoint
Our route starts and ends in Freckleton, a quiet spot which offers a more serene respite from its busier neighbours such as Lytham. This village has a long history and today it's a well kept and pretty place to visit with a few options of pubs and restaurants.We've opted for a fairly simple walk but the Lancashire Coastal Path can be accessed from Freckleton so those who like to stretch their legs further have plenty of options.
The historic Ship Inn is the start and end point for the walk with excellent food and drink on offer for visitors. It is the oldest hostelry in the Fylde with its license dating back to 1677 though its history dates back even further. It is known to have provided beds for travellers since the 14th century, according to historians. Today, it is described as a "characterful and friendly pub offering a range of delicious homemade food and real ales". Visitors can also enjoy spectacular views of the Freckleton Marsh from the rear beer garden.
The walk covers a total distance of around four miles and will take most people up to two hours to complete. It included multiple stiles and some soft and muddy ground so as always it's essential to wear appropriate footwear and clothing. The route covers a distance of around three miles and we've included simple instructions following footpaths and right of ways. The route retraces its steps after the midway point so feel free to customise it and similarly turn back on yourself to return to the start.
