Cellphone data expert colonel Lambertus Steyn had testified that Senzo Meyiwa's girlfriend Kelly Khumalo was in contact with the accused.

The State in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial intends to call retired cellphone data expert Colonel Lambertus Steyn to provide clarity regarding communication between the late goalkeeper’s girlfriend Kelly Khumalo and some of the five accused.

Vodacom forensic supervisor Pinky Vythilingham wrapped up her testimony about the data obtained from the cellphones of the accused, at the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday, 29 July.State prosecutor advocate George Baloyi told the court that they intend to bring an application for Steyn to return to the witness stand just to clarify certain aspects that came up in the cross-examination of Vythilingham.

“Colonel Steyn is currently receiving medical attention and he might not be available this week, and possibly only early next week,” Baloyi said.Additionally, should Steyn not be available,Meyiwa was shot and killed at Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus on 26 October 2014 and five men are on trial for his murder.

Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli face charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, possession of firearms without a licence and possession of ammunitionDuring cross-examination by advocate Charles Mnisi,Steyn previously testified that Ntuli called Khumalo twice before Meyiwa was killed. He said Ntuli called Khumalo on 2 August 2014 and 15 October 2014.
