Steven Bacon told the judge he was prepared to go ahead without his lawyer, whose flight was delayed. “It’s not going to make any difference,” he said. “I’m ready to do whatever the court wants to do.”
Steven Bacon’s sentencing hearing for the second-degree murder of sixteen-year-old Makayla Chang six years ago was delayed Friday morning after his defence lawyer’s flight was cancelled.
“And he’s not here. That’s the upshot of it all. And he might be able to get to the courthouse by 2:30 p.m.,” Baird said.“It’s not going to make any difference,” Bacon said. “I’m ready to do whatever the court wants to do.” An agreed statement of fact has been prepared. Crown and defence lawyers are expected to make a joint submission.Bacon was initially charged with first-degree murder of the teen he called his “Dearest Baby Bird” and “the most precious person he has ever known.” He reported her disappearance to Nanaimo RCMP.
