“Yeah, I might be a little more athletic,” Carr said Aug. 3, a smiley hint of pride painting his face. “Definitely worked on my body a lot this past summer. Just trying to be thinner, more explosive, quicker, more athletic.” Reshaping his body wasn’t about playing above the rim. Those post-practice jams were just for kicks. For Carr, this transformation was about elevating his speed, amplifying his agility and becoming more slippery with the ball while still retaining the strength to parry contact and get to his preferred shooting pockets.
. He scored 12 of his team-high 19 points in the second half, handed out five assists and didn’t commit a turnover in 34 minutes on the floor. When Creighton focused on running shooters off the 3-point line and blockading the interior, Carr showcased a feathery mid-range jumper that negated the daunting down-low presence of 7-1 Bluejay Ryan Kalkbrenner. When Texas’ half-court offense slumped, Carr pushed the tempo, using his speed and explosiveness to finish lay-ups and runners.
