A large proportion of voters who are turning out in the southern Kolda District are women who tend to arrive in groups, some backing their children. Although Senegal is largely peaceful, Kolda - which is both the name of the city and the region - is one of the areas that was particularly of concern because of previous activities of rebel groups.
