The Lions of Teranga edged the hosts in a very tense final at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers in front of 39,120 spectators on a cold winter night. Algeria's Eddine Mrezigue, 22, was named Player of the Tournament, while Aymen Mahious, 25, received the Golden Boot award. In the two semi-final matches held on January 31, Ayem Mahious scored two goals as Algeria hammered Niger 5-0, while Papa Diallo scored the lone goal as Senegal edged Madagascar 1-0. Niger and Madagascar met each other on Friday February 3, with Madagascar the victor in the playoff for third place. The tournament was delayed by several months due to Covid-19 restrictions.
