Senators forward Derick Brassard will have a night to remember as he suits up for No. 1,000 at MSG

The 35\u002Dyear\u002Dold Gatineau native couldn\u0027t have scripted a better stage than Madison Square Garden to become the 380th player in NHL history to play 1,000 games.

Before the Senators face the Columbus Blue Jackets — the team that drafted him No. 6 overall in 2006 — at the Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday, Brassard will receive his silver stick to mark the occasion with 50 family and friends in three suites.

“It’s better for my family and friends to have the ceremony here Saturday. To have at Madison Square Garden means a lot. It’s a special place for me. I had so much fun there. The success that we had as a team, just living in New York City and playing for the Rangers, is just something I’m never going to forget.”Article content

He appreciates this second turn with the Senators because Brassard came to camp on a professional tryout and if he hadn’t earned a contract he could be retired.
