Sen. Karen Mayne, D-West Valley City, announced she has been diagnosed with cancer in a statement Friday night.

He won the seat in 1994, and they worked together in caring for the district until his death in November 2007.“With the support of my family and friends, I will undergo the proper treatment regimen suggested by my doctors,” Mayne said. “I am hopeful to return to the legislature soon where I can be with all of you, my friends, and colleagues.
The Senate Majority and Minority Leadership wrote in a joint statement that Mayne is loved by everyone and that they look forward to having her back in the legislature. “We offer our love and support to our dear colleague and friend,” the leadership said in the statement. “She is a strong, resilient leader of the minority caucus and has the entire Senate’s unwavering support. We pray for strength and comfort for her and her family as she undertakes this battle.”
