Read the communication between Van Niekerk and the Banxso owner and decide for yourself.
Before publishing the latest articles regarding Banxso and Harel Adam Sekler, the company’s owner and director accused Ryk van Niekerk, editor of Moneyweb and author of several articles about Banxso, of harassment and described his conduct during the investigation as “hostile, aggressive and unprofessional”.
The letter is in reaction to two sets of questions Van Niekerk sent to Sekler in May regarding his apparent link to Banc de Binary, one of the most prominent binary options scams of the 2010s, and other Banxso-related matters. He adds: “Moreover, we are instructed to place on record that from the outset, you have been conducting yourself in an aggressive, hostile and unprofessional manner, contrary to the journalistic ethics you and Moneyweb hold in such high regard. Our client has no intention to be further subjected to your unfounded “witch-hunt” and therefore specifically intend for this correspondence to reach all of the stakeholders in Moneyweb and African Media Entertainment , respectively.
Moneyweb believes the link is of great public interest, as more than 165 individuals have contacted Moneyweb and claimed they acted on the promises made in the fake ads and collectively lost more than R91 million in their dealings with Banxso.
