To honor International HolocaustMemorialDay–and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau–the Duchess of Cambridge photographed Holocaust survivors and their grandchildren for an upcoming exhibition.

With the support of the Royal Photographic Society, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, and, Kate Middleton photographed two Holocaust survivors and their grandchildren. They will be featured in an exhibition that will open later this year.

Steven Frank, 84, originally from Amsterdam, who survived multiple concentration camps as a child, pictured alongside his granddaughters Maggie and Trixie Fleet, age 15 and 13.“I wanted to make the portraits deeply personal to Yvonne and Steven—a celebration of family and the life that they have built since they both arrived in Britain in the 1940s. The families brought items of personal significance with them which are included in the photographs,” the duchess said.
