“I still consider myself a two\u002Dway defenceman,” Calgary Flames draft pick Etienne Morin said.

“I still consider myself a two-way defenceman,” Morin said. “Like you said, I’m more offensive than defensive but it’s something I’m looking forward to bringing up to my game. My strongest asset is my hockey IQ, I’m really smart with the puck, my decision making and very calm with the puck.”

Etienne Morin scored 21 goals and collected 51 assists through 67 games with the Moncton Wildcats this season.Speaking with reporters in Nashville shortly after the conclusion of the draft, Flames GM Craig Conroy admitted that he and the rest of the Flames’ management team had been a little surprised that Morin was still on the board. The same goes for third-round pick Aydar Suniev, who they were considering taking in the second-round, too.

Whenever Morin does arrive in Calgary, it seems he’ll have the distinct advantage of having some familiarity with a couple guys already in the Flames’ system. It’s not just Pelletier, either.Article content There’s a little bit of a French-Canadian connection growing around the Saddledome, and that suits Morin just fine.
