Yuexi “Alex” Lei, 37, was originally arrested March 10 on two counts of accessory after the fact and one count of accessory after the fact in relation to the murder of alleged underground banker Jian Jun Zhu.
A second man is accused of first-degree murder in connection to the 2020 killing of a key figure in B.C.’s casino money laundering scandal.
“Mr. Lei is now charged with first-degree murder, attempt murder and reckless discharge of a firearm for the September 18, 2020 incidents along with co-accused Richard Reed,” said Daniel McLaughlin, spokesman for the B.C. Prosecution Service. Zhu was shot at the Manzo Japanese Restaurant on Cambie and Capstan in Richmond and died the next day in hospital. A second victim, Paul King Jin, survived.
