A team of experts, who are acting on a tip, are sifting through a deep mine looking for clues, KUTV reported.

Powell grew up in Puyallup and vanished in Utah in December 2009, where she was living with her husband and two boys.

Many believe she was killed by her husband, Josh Powell, but he was never charged with the crime before his death.“It’s always been in the back of my mind. I knew something wasn’t right,” said Dave Sparks, who is leading the search effort. “We clear this mine forever, the suspicious mine that has this weird story, we figured it out. Or B, we find her down there and bring a lot of closure to the family.

Last Saturday marked 10 years to the day since Josh Powell murdered the couple’s sons, Charlie and Braden, before taking his own life by blowing up a house he was renting in Graham.More news from KIRO 7
