The pilot and a passenger in the plane were able to escape before it sank into the river.
ERIE TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Two men were able to escape from their sinking plane after it hit a powerline during takeoff from a Northwest Ohio river, causing it to crash into the water.
The 2003 Cessna 206 seaplane hit a powerline, causing it to plane to crash back into the water. Lenardson and a passenger, Leo Eggert Jr., 67, of Perrysburg, Ohio, escaped from the plane as it began to sink and were able to swim to shore, the patrol says. Both Lenardson and Eggert Jr. were taken to Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton for treatment of minor injuries. Rescue Marine removed the plane from the river, the patrol says.
