The widow, who lived near the naval base at the time, recalls how emergency services rushed to the scene.
“I could hear lots of sirens going off in my area around the time I fetched my son from school. We came home, I switched on the TV, then there was a knock on the door. The vipra came and told me that my husband had been involved in an accident. It was then that I realised he'd passed away,” she recalls.
Verusha had to move from Bluff to Chatsworth and, as an unemployed widow, has had to live off her husband’s pension fund to survive. In 2020 she decided to ensure that her husband's legacy and memory would not be forgotten.
