Fans hopped over the fence and forced their way through security outside San Diego State University's basketball arena Monday, where the game is being broadcast on the area’s Jumbotron.
San Diego State University fans stormed the gates and pushed by security Monday at Viejas Arena, where thousands were watching a live feed of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game.San Diego Union-Tribune reporters at the arena tweeted images showing a heavy security presence around the arena ahead of the game. Thousands of fans were lined up outside.At 6:19 p.m.
At one point in the video, a man hops over the fence and opens the security gate for a stream of people to rush through.Another man, wearing a black shirt with an SDSU logo, pushes through the crowd and gate. He yells profanity at another man before entering the stadium. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department online call log showed paramedics responding to at least two medical calls near the arena after the incident.A lot of police presence at the west entrance to Viejas Arena at halftime. A security guard told me when the gates closed w/arena fulll, tthose still outside knocked down the metal detectors. One guy hopped the 8-foot fence, she said, and opened the doors to let others rush in.
