The A section finals of the provincial men’s and women’s curling championships will highlight the 7 p.m. draw at the Crapaud Community Curling Club on Jan.
In the P.E.I. Tankard men’s competition, Adam Casey and his Cornwall rink will take on the Tyler Smith team from the host club.
On the women’s side, the defending-champion Suzanne Birt rink from Cornwall will take on Melissa Morrow of Summerside in P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts action.Casey defeated Cornwall’s Mitchell Schut 8-3 in the morning draw on Jan. 26 and Bryan Cochrane of Cornwall 10-5 on Jan. 25. Smith won twice against a pair of Summerside rinks – 11-5 over Steve vanOuwerkerk and 7-5 versus Darren Higgins.The women’s first games were part of the morning draw on Jan. 26. Birt defeated Rachel MacLean of Cornwall 7-3 while Morrow won 10-3 over Darlene London of Montague.
The P.E.I. Tankard features 11 men’s teams and there are four women’s rinks competing for the provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts title. Both events feature a triple-knockout format. The P.E.I. champions will represent the province at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kamloops, B.C., from Feb. 17 to 26, and the Tim Hortons Brier in London, Ont., from March 3 to 12.
