Scottish Ministers have also told councils to provide information on RAAC in schools by the end of the week.
The First Minister also said 254 NHS buildings are believed to be affected amid mounting fears over safety.
Yousaf said at Holyrood the number of schools with RAAC had risen: “I can confirm that, given we have further information back from local authorities, 40 schools have been identified that have Raac in them, and of course the appropriate mitigations have been put in place.” In a separate statement, Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said she had asked councils to provide information about their schools by the end of the week. She accused the UK Government of a “deeply concerning level of chaos" and said Keegan had a “disregard” for the devolved administrations.
“We know that at least 5 of the schools on that list contain RAAC, although I suspect that number will be far higher. They are still waiting. This must be dealt with urgently.“We need to know when exactly the government first became aware of the issue and what steps it took.” “SNP ministers been aware of the issue of dangerous concrete for a while, so spending decisions on these schools should have been a top priority for ministers.”
“We would stress that some councils have no RAAC affected buildings. We would reiterate that safety is the central consideration and there is robust guidance to ensure these settings are safe for the public to be in.”
