A 12-year-old schoolgirl was 'left for dead' after she was struck by a car in a hit-and-run in Wishaw .

It is understood the maniac driver overtook a number of stationary vehicles and sped through a red light as the youngster crossed the road.Dad Robert, 51, told the Record: "It makes me sick to know this driver is still out there."The driver overtook other cars and hit Jess while she was crossing on a green man."I hope the police can find who is responsible so they can be brought to justice.

Heroic drivers rushed to the schoolgirl's aid moments before Robert arrived to find his daughter in an "awful state"."She had a neck brace on, was on a spinal board and covered in blood.Jess was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital where she received seven stitches to her mouth and treatment for her broken collarbone.
