Sir Brian Langstaff, chair of the Infected Blood Inquiry, said transitional payments to victims should begin as soon as possible
Scots survivors of the infected blood scandal have condemned the Tory Government for “dragging their heels” over compensation payments.
Campaigners say that by extending the parameters of Sir Brian’s inquiry to the parents and children of victims, the Government could face claims from about 15,000 people and a final bill of around £12billion. “Even now, with more than half of those infected already dead and those of us who have survived dying at a rate of one every four or five days, there doesn’t seem to be any urgency.
Bruce, who has suffered crippling health problems since being infected with hepatitis C at the age of three, has been told the additional hearings, to begin on July 24, have been called to force a Government response.
