Homeless Project Scotland's co-founder Colin McInnes said kind-hearted volunteers are being met with growing “hostility”

A homeless charity has hit out after a volunteer was allegedly scalded by hot soup in the latest of a series of shocking attacks on staff.

Police confirmed two men have since been charged in connection with the alleged incidents on Argyle Street. Homeless Project Scotland was set up in 2019 and now runs a soup kitchen seven nights a week close to Glasgow’s Central Station. He pleaded for an empty building to use, saying staff had been called “scum”, spat at in the face and harassed for feeding ‘junkies’.” by passers by under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

“Not long before our volunteers was hit with the soup a guy was brandishing a glass bottle at staff. We had another incident last week where police were called.“Our shift started at 3pm and we didn’t get finished until midnight. We had over 300 people to feed. Finding volunteers isn’t easy.Police Scotland confirmed they were called to “a report of a disturbance” at around 9.45pm on Sunday in Arygle Street.
