It comes as mountain rescue teams are stretched to the limit.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue reached the milestone on Saturday when they helped a French walker who suffered a broken leg on 4413ft Ben Nevis. He was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness . His condition is unknown.
Lochaber team leader Iain Murray said: “It was our 100th call out and it has been a really busy period – the team members have put in a really good effort, especially in the summer holidays when their family time is precious.“The number of rescues is a reflection of more people using the outdoors – which is a good thing – but unfortunately some end up in difficult situations.

Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team answered 157 call outs last year, including five fatalities. The previous record was 132 and in 2022 there were 122. The volunteers deal with almost double the call outs it had three years ago.About three-quarters were to Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain.
