Fans are partying in Merchant Square.

Scotland fans began the celebrations early as they geared up for a big night ahead at the start of Euro 2024 .

Tens of thousands of pints of lager were ordered by businesses in the square ahead of the fiesta and by 4.30pm punters were being turned away from the door as it was full to capacity. Jamie Hamilton, 22, also from Ayr added: “It’s amazing” while pal Jamie Crane 33, added: “It’s historic to be here and we are having some more beers.”

Charlie Macleod Adams, 22, from Helensburgh had also been out since 1pm. With his Saltire wrapped around him he said: "I started not too late, not too early. A Scotland party is made the best by the fans obviously. Graeme said: “We all bought the matching kits to celebrate. I was four in 1990. We are hoping for a Scotland 2/1 win today.”
