Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) has decided not to summon President Cyril Ramaphosa to appear before it to provide information on the alleged misuse of public funds for political party activities. MervynDirks Ramaphosa

This comes after African National Congress member of parliament Mervyn Dirks requested Scopa to summon Ramaphosa to appear before the committee. A Parliamentary committee has the powers to summon any person to appear before it when required to do so. The constitution requires the summons to be carried out in terms of national legislation, rules or orders. In the current instance, a summons issued in terms of the National Assembly Rules and the Section 14 of the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament and Provincial Legislatures Act.
