Yellow weather warnings for snow, ice and fog are dotted across the UK as bitterly-cold weather continues. The cold snap is expected to remain through next week, with overnight frosts and daytime temperatures dipping below freezing.
There will be a news briefing at 12.30pm after news that three boys, aged eight, 10 and 11, have died in Solihull after falling into a frozen lake.Both West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire and Rescue will contribute to the news conference, which will take place at Babbs Mill Park.A number of schools across the UK have closed for the day or delayed their start time due to heavy snowfall in many regions.
A search of the lake continued overnight after reports up to six children had fallen in, but police warned it was"no longer a search and rescue operation". Two children were taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital and the others to the city's Heartland's Hospital.More astonishing photographs of the winter weather are emerging this morning, as the cold conditions look set to continue for days to come.
"This will be mostly over parts of northern Scotland - I think that's where we will see the worst of the weather as we head through the next few days. There will be a lot of snow there. "Flights were also affected yesterday as snow closures affected Manchester, Liverpool, London Gatwick and London Luton airports with some flight cancellations and diversions," she added.
