The Crest served the children of Wirral Grammar School for decades
An unassuming block of flats in a peaceful Bebington suburb was once a bustling "tuck shop" where children flocked for paper bags of pick-n-mix, fizzy cola bottles, flying saucers, white mice and sour cherries.
Neighbour David Munns, 74, said: "I used to work in Birkenhead years ago, and as we came down we dropped off there to grab the Echo and a couple of sandwiches. I think it was a good shop, especially for the school. That was all the way back in 1972." Another neighbour on nearby Heathcote Gardens, who attended Wirral Grammar School for Girls, said: "My only recollection of going into The Crest was the fact that I was in needlework class and I ran out of thread and the teacher said I could put my blazer on and make sure I had my hat on and go across and buy a reel of thread. That was in 1965. The podiatrist I go to, her sons were paperboys at The Crest.
