Sunny, 31, and Ava, 30, are homeowners who have been recently hit with higher interest rates on their mortgage. They own a property in Scarborough where they live and rent out the basement to a tenant, in addition to other properties they rent out.

“We purchased our Scarborough home last year and chose a variable rate,” the couple says. “We received a letter in the mail advising us of the trigger rate.
