Contractors have reportedly been telling Sherwood residents that a tenant is soon to takeover the site
Scaffolding has gone up on the former Wilko store in Sherwood as rumours continue that Heron Foods could take over the site. The branch on Mansfield Road shut on September 19 as part of a wave of Nottinghamshire Wilko closures following the retailer's collapse.
The store is one of the few ex-Wilko sites in Nottinghamshire that still has an uncertain future, with retailers including B&M Bargains and Poundland having snapped up many of them. One of the more unusual plans is for the former Wilko in Sutton-in-Ashfield, which could become a construction college under a partnership with West Notts College.
Although nothing has been confirmed for the future of Sherwood's old Wilko, Heron Foods were previously unable to deny that they could take the site on. The frozen food retailer was asked by a Sherwood resident about rumours and a spokesperson's reply was posted online, with the business saying: "Thank you for your interest and email regarding Heron Foods new stores."Unfortunately, I am unable to comment on this at this present time.
