The newly appointed Saudi ambassador to the Palestinian Authority is visiting the Israeli-occupied West Bank for the first time.
Nayef al-Sudairi, Saudi Arabia's the first-ever Saudi ambassador to the Palestinian Authority, arrives to present his credentials to the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Riyad Al-Maliki, Ramallah, Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023. Al-Sudairi visited the Palestinian territories Tuesday to discuss the burgeoning Saudi-Israeli normalization deal, which the kingdom has said will hinge on what concessions Israel is willing to grant the Palestinians.
If the Biden administration can forge an agreement between Israel's far-right, ultranationalist government and the Palestinian Authority, the Saudis stand to gain a defense pact with the U.S. and U.S. aid for a Saudi civilian nuclear program. Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister Riyad al-Maliki called the meeting a “historical milestone to enhance and develop bilateral relations between the two sister countries and open up further prospects for cooperation in all fields."
