Norman Simons, 56, was released from prison on Thursday at 07:00 into the care of his cousin in Parow, Western Cape. It was 28 years ago that Simons, who was accused of but not convicted of being the notorious Station Strangler, was incarcerated for the murder of Elroy van Rooyen – a murder he still claims not to have committed, while many in the Cape community still believe he did it and that he is guilty of even worse crimes despite no convincing evidence.
Florence Gelant, the maternal aunt of Elroy, had just begun her career in the medical field when her nephew died.
