Major Saturday night ITV show The Masked Dancer 'won't return in 2023'
The Masked Dancer reportedly won't return for a new series this year. The reality dancing competition has been shelved after just two series to make way for ITV's coverage of the Rugby World Cup 2023 in the autumn, an industry insider has claimed.
It means fans will have to wait until at least 2024 for the show, which is judged by Oti Mabuse, Danvina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan, to return. The claim comes as the latest series of its hit sister show The Masked Singer is set to conclude with the final this Saturday , reported The Mirror.
A TV source reportedly revealed: "Fans will be gutted, but The Masked Dancer is being rested for 2023. Instead, ITV are showing the Rugby World Cup over the autumn."The Rugby World Cup is set to take place in September and October - the same period during which the second series of The Masked Dancer aired last year. The source told The Sun: "This doesn't mean it can't come back in 2024, and ITV have plans for other specials like The Masked Singer I'm A Celeb show.
. Last year's The Masked Dancer winner was Scissors, who was revealed to be Glee actress Heather Morris, after beating Onomatopoeia - actor Adam Garcia - in the final. Meanwhile, in the final of The Masked Singer this weekend, Phoenix, Rhino and Fawn will take to the stage before their identities are revealed. A dramatic double elimination in the semi-final unmasked Jacket Potato as Bon Jon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora while Jellyfish was revealed to be singer and actress Amber Riley.
