The move follows concerns raised by the Public Protector and the need for a thorough investigation into her leadership at the agency.
‘Given the gravity of the concerns raised, it is vital that we allow this investigation to unfold without obstruction,’ Tolashe remarked. ‘Our primary focus remains on steering SASSA in the right direction and ensuring the agency continues to serve millions of South Africans who depend on social assistance.’reported that the suspension is seen as part of a broader effort to address ongoing challenges facing SASSA.
In the interim, Themba Matlou, the Regional Executive Manager for SASSA in Gauteng, has been appointed as acting CEO. Matlou will oversee the agency’s operations while the investigation into Memela-Khambula’s appointment is concluded.
