In a media release, police said they responded to 29 weapons-related calls over the weekend, laying 23 charges.The weapons seized included firearms, knives and tools used as weapons: two .22 shotguns, a BB gun, three cans of bear spray, a box cutter, bullets, a CO2 handgun, two hammers, two hatchets, a hockey stick, a weed wacker, four knives, two machetes, one rusty metal pipe and one wrench.

Police provided information about two calls in the release, including one incident shortly before noon on Saturday. Police said they responded to a gas station in the 1600 block of 33rd Street West after receiving a report about a man seen with a firearm leaving a business. Arriving officers found him and seized an imitation handgun. He was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.Article content

In another incident later that day, police were told a man was assaulted in the 800 block of Confederation Drive around 4 p.m. by a woman who used a metal object to hit him. Police said they later determined the weapon was part of an air rifle. Officers found her nearby. She is charged with uttering threats to cause death, possession of a dangerous weapon and assault with a weapon.
