The government is also promising $1.3 million to establish a firearms compensation committee to determine the fair market value of firearms, ammunition and other accessories “expropriated” by the federal government, and $927,000 toward building a Saskatchewan Firearms Ballistics lab, which would process the ballistics testing.

The budget announcement includes long-awaited funds for supports for women and children leaving domestic violence and living in second-stage housing, with $876,000 promised over three years. On the policing side, although the Saskatchewan Marshals Service isn’t expected to be operational until mid- to late 2026, the budget includes $7 million for the 70-member force.

The budget includes $1.6 million to establish a Crime Reduction Team in the Battlefords, made up of eight RCMP officers targeting street gangs and prolific criminals, and $147,000 to enhance the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
