World fertilizer prices soaring with key producers Russia and Belarus under sanctions.

Production hit 14.2 million tonnes and sales reached $7.6 billion, according to a provincial government media release.

The situation earlier this month prompted Nutrien interim CEO Ken Seitz to tell an investor conference that the company was preparing for the possibility of a “prolonged disruption in supply out of that part of the world.” Nutrien is the largest player in the Saskatchewan potash industry, with six mines in the province capable of producing up to 20 million tonnes. The company earlier this month announced plans to increase production to 15 million tonnes this year, an increase of 1 million tonnes from last year and 20 per cent higher than in 2020.
