“I was like, ‘Are you fucking kidding me?’” Snook said, describing her response upon learning that Tom would become CEO. “I never really considered that Tom becoming CEO is Shiv, by proxy, winning,” she continued in theinterview with the outlet. “For Shiv, that is so not a win! That is: ‘I’m once again power-adjacent. I’m not the winner.’”
Snook doesn’t even think Tom played much of a role at all in Shiv’s decision to vote against Kendall. “I have heard that people thought that Shiv was thinking 10 steps ahead, and that if Tom’s going to get the CEO-ship and she’s got a kid with Tom, then the closest she can be to it is by saying ‘No’ in this moment,” the actor said. “But I think it’s just pure instinct. I think it’s trigger response. It’s scratching an open wound that is always there with the siblings.
As for Shiv’s decision to ride home from the vote with her newly appointed husband, Snook called it the “path of least resistance” for the notoriously toxic spouses. “It’s sort of a war of attrition,” she explained. “We reached a point where we’re resolved to our fates, I guess. And how do I put my hand as delicately in yours without holding it, or being held?”just after the series finale, said that new motherhood may factor into Shiv’s ability to lobby for power as well.
