SANParks has initiated disciplinary measures against a driver involved in a recent incident where a vehicle struck a lioness during a sighting at Kruger National Park,Park officials launched a search for the driver of a Toyota Land Cruiser who, on Friday, 9 August 2024, recklessly struck a lioness with his vehicle while towing a caravan.

The driver attempted to force his way between two parked vehicles observing a pride of lions, ignoring the warnings of another motorist who shouted for him to stop.A video of the incident quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread outrage and prompting calls for the driver to be permanently banned from the park.Please be assured that the incident involving a vehicle bumping a lioness at a sighting is being handled at the highest level.

The Lowvelder website reported that Kruger National Park’s spokesperson, Ike Phaahla said: ‘We have consulted with security officers. They picked up the registration number through our advanced camera technology and will be following up. People should realise they are not invisible when in the park.’

Phaahla added that the driver will likely receive a spot fine. In severe cases, like when an animal is run over, drivers may be blacklisted.
