The hearing takes place a day after the ten-year anniversary of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
“I was sitting on the carpet with my classmates waiting for my teacher to give us directions for the day,” Melchionno recalled. “And we heard what sounded like large metal pans being smashed together.” The class was evacuated by police to the firehouse, where parents could be reunited with their children.Twenty-six people — including 20 children — were killed in the massacre in Newtown, which. In May, 21 people — including 19 children — were killed in the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, 10 days after 10 people were killed in the rampage at a Buffalo, N.Y., grocery store.
