SANDF member arrested after shooting in tavern, injuring eight
A member of the SA Defence Force has been arrested by the SA Police Service after he opened fire in the Lehlokwaneng Tavern in Manyatseng, Ladybrand, injuring eight people, two of whom remain left in critical condition.
The 37-year-old suspect, who is stationed at the Tempe Military Base in Bloemfontein, is said to have been sitting in a group when an argument ensued on Friday night. In an incident report, which City Press has seen, the police said that they received a call about a shooting incident which allegedly took place after the suspect and another person had an argument.
According to the report, following the argument, the suspect decided to go to his house to fetch his firearm, only to discharge it, shooting and injuring eight.When he arrived back at the Lehlokwaneng Tavern he started shooting inside the tavern, where he injured eight victims. All victims sustained serious injuries, however, two victims are critical and were transferred to the Pelonomi hospital in Bloemfontein from the Senorita hospital for medical examination and treatment.
