SAN JOSE — A woman was killed in a car collision off Alma Avenue early Tuesday, adding to an ongoing record total of roadway deaths in the Bay Area’s largest city.
The two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:16 a.m. near the intersection of Alma and Pomona avenues, according to San Jose police. One of the motorists, identified only as adult and female as of Tuesday morning, was taken to a hospital and died from her injuries, police said. Additional details were not immediately available. The collision marked the city’s 63rd traffic death of the year, moving San Jose steadily past its previous modern record of 60. That figure was reached three times in the past decade.
The city also reached another grim milestone this past year, with police reporting that 31 of the roadway deaths in 2022 involved pedestrian victims, also an ongoing modern record.
