So long paper tickets, hello 21st century!
San Antonio Zoo
was much like it was in the 1950s. As of Wednesday, guests will no longer be allowed to wait in line for a physical ticket but instead need to use virtual passes on their phone or from kiosks to enter. The zoo announced the change on Monday and is offering a discount on tickets through the rest of the week to encourage visitors to purchase tickets virtually.
The local attraction had already been selling tickets and memberships on its website, but finally decided to do away with physical tickets at the gate as it prepares for a new entrance. The current entrance is closed for construction.Kiosks for digital tickets will also be available at the Zoo Parking Garage and the Starbucks location in Brackenridge Park. Guests can enter the local attraction through the Kiddie Park and a parking garage entrance during construction.
"Replacing the 1950's era entrance is an exciting new adventure and chapter in our history," said San Antonio Zoo President & CEO Tim Morrow in a news release. The new zoo entrance will be moved further away from the street. The original entrance provided little room for pedestrian traffic, Morrow told the Express-News, adding that the new one will be"more functional, inspirational and will better represent our community.
