SAMRO's Music Business Publisher Training programme hopes to empower local entrepreneurs in the music business.
The programme is a collaboration between SAMRO and the Music Business Lab and it is certified by the University of Pretoria.SAMRO, the folks whose job it is to make sure that those playing music at shopping malls, cinemas, pubs, venues, as well as on radio and TV pay royalties, has awarded 50 bursaries for its Music Business Publisher Training programme.
For this year’s programme, SAMRO received 34 percent more applications than it did in 2024. An independent panel of adjudicators assessed every submission before eventually awarding bursaries. “SAMRO recognises the significance of cultivating music business skills for musicians. It extends beyond the creation of exceptional music and encompasses a comprehensive understanding of the industry and how to navigate it effectively,” SAMRO said of the bursary programme.
The Music Business Publisher Training Programme is an intensive six-week programme that provides participants with in-depth knowledge of music publishing, revenue generation, product innovation, and entrepreneurship. By focusing on career advancement and industry-specific training, the programme empowers participants to build sustainable careers and unlock their full potential in the music industry.
