Under the Banner of Heaven is a haunting new FX series that depicts the true story of the 1984 Lafferty murders; a crime so shocking that it rocked many fundamental Mormons to their core. The true crime drama, which premiered April 28 on Hulu, views the Lafferty clan through the eyes of Detectives Jeb Pyre and Bill Taba as they attempt to unmask the killer while fielding the fears and conspiracies of the community around them.
Sam Worthington: Each role has its own challenges, and I think the challenge of this one was that there was a longevity to it. Not only just in the sense of how many episodes the character's drawn out, but the timeline of understanding Ron Lafferty is very split up. Sam Worthington: It was that. That it wasn't exploitive of what happened, and it was an examination of the radicalization of faith, and how people can subvert their values to get their own means. And then the dire consequences that come from that.
Andrew [Garfield] was telling me that he was trying to find some things to do on his downtime on set. He ended up taking up knitting. Did you end up doing anything-- He sounded pretty serious. I don't think, also, I want to. I like the surprise of it. We've been very secretive for the last 15 years, and only a select group of us know it. Then when it comes out, once it's ready and done, you hand it over to an audience - just like with this TV series. And that's where it lives. But you try to hold on to it as best you can before you have to give it to the world. Sam Worthington: It's definitely a mysterious, thrilling series.
