France Football director Pascal Ferre believes Liverpool star Mohamed Salah could finish in the top three for this year's Ballon d'Or award. SLInt MORE:
The prestigious Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place on Monday night, with Salah among the 30 players making the nominees list. The Egyptian's highest ever finish in the Ballon d'Or voting came in 2019 when he finished fourth behind Sadio Mane, Cristiano Ronaldo, Virgil van Dijk and the winner Lionel Messi.
Ferre believes Egypt not winning the Africa Cup of Nations and failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup will hinder Salah's chances of winning the award. “Salah is among the five or six players nominated for the award because in the 2021-22 season he achieved a lot and was named the best player in the Premier League,” Ferre told MBC Masr.
“But he did not win the 2021 African Nations Cup and did not qualify for the 2022 World Cup while his former teammate Sadio Mane did, but I think he can make the top three. “Salah is an exceptional player and one day he will win the award because he has incredible qualities. He is an icon in the Middle East and the Arab world,” he added.
