🗣 'Given the pace I was showing, maybe we could've been a bit more patient but it's how it is.' Carlossainz55 says Ferrari could have delayed pitting in F1 MonacoGP but regrets angry radio outburst:
He called this stop “a lottery” due to the nature of the race at that point, and concedes he should have kept his frustrations at bay over the first one.
“I think Monaco, first of all is a bit of a lottery, and today was a bit of a lottery for everyone - probably I just got the worst out of it,” he added. “The first pitstop is debatable - I will go back and review because obviously I was very quick on the in-lap and felt like I still had a lot more lap time to come in clean air.“But I shouldn't have showed it on the radio, first of all, always due to frustration and then the second pitstop, as I said before, it's a lottery.
“We knew that this was tricky. Today we waited for a safety car and surprisingly nobody did a mistake and there was no safety car. “So, it’s like this. Yes, with the benefit of hindsight, I would have changed things, but we don’t know when we are in the car at that time and I think today was the right choice.”

F1 Monaco Grand Prix live updatesFormula 1 descends on its most iconic track on Sunday as drivers and teams race through the streets of Monte Carlo for the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix. They'll all be chasing World Championship points leader Max Verstappen again – unless Fernando Alonso can pull off lap one magic. Verstappen emerged from a thrilling qualifying session on Saturday with the pole position in hand. It's his first pole at Monaco, but he'll have to fend off a front row attack from Fernando Alonso on the first lap. There aren't many overtaking opportunities at Monaco, so the race could come down to the first corner and any yellow or red flags over the 78 laps. The race starts at 9 a.m. ET / 2 p.m. BST. United States viewers can watch on ABC, the ESPN app or F1 TV. U.K. viewers can watch on Sky Sports.Further ReadingVerstappen secures Monaco GP pole positionMonaco GP: A flawed track showed its magic in Saturday’s F1 qualifying thrillerHistoric, famous and punishing: Breaking down Monaco’s iconic F1 circuit(Top photo: CHRISTIAN BRUNA/AFP via Getty Images)
