It will be UCLA, and not Saint Mary’s, advancing to the NCAA East Regional semifinals in Philadelphia.
There will be no Sweet 16 for Saint Mary’s.
Saint Mary’s concludes its season with a 26-8 record that included a 16-0 home record and the best NCAA Tournament seed in school history. Point guard Tyger Campbell led UCLA with 16 points, with Jamie Jaquez Jr. scoring 15 before leaving with an ankle injury, Jules Bernard 14 and Johnny Juzang 14. Said UCLA coach Mick Cronin: “Saint Mary’s is a great defensive team and what did we shoot, 56 percent? That doesn’t happen against them.”
“We lost to a good team,” Bennett said. “I wish we would have played better. I’m sure UCLA had something to do with that. It wasn’t one of our better games.”
