The Saint John Alpines won both ends of a doubleheader – a close game and a blowout – to extend the P.E.I. Islanders’ slump in the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League. The Alpines scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and go on to a 3-2 victory in Game 1, and then scored four runs in the second and three more in the third to take control of Game 2 en route to a 10-0 victory. Both games were played at Memorial Field on Aug. 6.The Islanders looked to snap a six-game losing streak in Moncton, N.B., against the first-place Fisher Cats on Aug. 7.Matt Nason pitched two-hit ball over three innings to earn the pitching win in relief.
Jordan Stevenson went the distance for the Islanders, allowing three earned runs, eight hits, three walks and striking out 10.Logan MacDougall and Grant Grady led the Islanders at the plate.Ayron Fournier , Adam Clark and Ryan Van Snick sparked the Alpines’ offence.Ryan Nason, who walked three and struck out eight, tossed a seven-hit complete game to earn the pitching win.
Islanders’ starter Jonathan Arsenault took the pitching loss. Arsenault allowed six earned runs, six hits, two walks and struck out one batter in two innings of work.
